Pi Kappa Alpha Inaugural Powder Puff Football Tournament

The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at The University of Mississippi held an inaugural Powder Puff Football Tournament to raise money for charity. The event was started by University of Mississippi senior's Tyler Samuels and Taylor Madison.

The event lasted two days, and was kicked off with a barbecue dinner and ended with a flag football tournament. Overall, the event raised $25,000 to be divided up between three charities; Feed The Hunger, Love For Life and More Than A Meal.

"We couldn't be more thrilled with the turnout since this was the first year we put this event on, and the fact that we got to raise money for charity and have an awesome time doing it made it a huge success," Samuels said.

Nine sororities from the University of Mississippi competed in the weekend's various activities. Although the ladies of Tri Delta came in first place in the football tournament, Kappa Delta took home the ultimate prize by having the most cumulative points from all of the weekend's activities.

Pi Beta Phi came in second place, and there was a three way tie for third place between Chi Omega, Phi Mu and Tri Delta.

There were five different ways in which you could be awarded points for your sorority. Selling advertisements was the first, and the second was the sororities' attendance at the Pi Kappa Alpha house for a barbecue dinner.

The third way to score points was a dance competition which took place at the barbecue dinner. Each team was given eight Pi Kappa Alpha members who had to learn a dance and perform it in front of everyone at the dinner. University of Mississippi freshman Kyle Mackey was one of the Pi Kappa Alpha members who participated in the dance competition.

"I was pretty embarrassed about dancing in front of everyone at first, but once the music got going and our team started getting into it I had so much fun," Mackey said.

Each sorority nominated a Powder Puff Queen, which was the fourth way to score points for your team. Madison, who helped put together the event, was nominated by Kappa Delta as their queen and ended up winning the crown.

"I am so grateful to have won Powder Puff Queen, Madison said, I put so much hard work into helping put this together and receiving this honor just made it that much more special to me."

The flag football tournament which capped off the weekend was the final way to accumulate points for your team, and was played in Vaught Hemingway Stadium.
